Overview
Swan Mountain Outfitters is owned and operated by Pat and Joanne Tabor. Ever since Pat was in his teens, he always dreamed of owning an outdoor recreation company. Pat has been fishing and hunting all over the world for the last 25 years. After working for many years in the corporate world, Pat and Joanne decided they needed to focus on making their dreams a reality while they were still young enough to make it happen. Today, they feel privileged to reside in the beautiful Swan Valley of Montana at Swan Mountain Ranch.
Often described as a “new generation outfitter”, Pat is focused on providing top quality customer service for the guests of Swan Mountain Outfitters and Swan Mountain Ranch and uses the best equipment, techniques and trip planning strategies that create the best adventure itineraries and experiences today. Over the last 25 years, Pat has been a client of over 34 outfitters located all over the world. Pat will tell you, he has been with some of the best, and unfortunately, some of the worst. This collective experience has enabled him to identify the attributes of many of the finest outfitters and bring this knowledge to Swan Mountain Outfitters. This expertise, combined with his strong business acumen gained through almost three decades in the corporate world, makes Pat unique among Montana outfitters.
Swan Mountain Outfitters operates under permits from the Flathead National Forest, Montana DNRC, and private timber company leases.
They raise and train most of their own horses at Swan Mountain Ranch. The majority are registered Paint and Quarter Horses. Their horses have “get-up-and-go” personalities, big muscles and savvy, mountain trail experience. Think of them as elite athletes! Swan Mountain Outfitters breeds for disposition and the athletic ability necessary for mountain trail riding. They also use mules for pack trips.
On the first day of your summer fishing or pack trip, you will receive a lesson in the basics of horsemanship. Your safety and well being is Swan Mountain Outfitters’s primary concern, so instruction will be not only in riding skills, but also in the specifics of wilderness riding precautions.
Whether novice or experienced rider, they will match you with a horse which suits your skill level and temperament to ensure that you have the best possible horseback riding adventure with them.
In Pat’s own words: “At Swan Mountain Outfitters, we want our clients to have the time of their life. As we reflect back on the many places we’ve been and trips we’ve experienced, a handful of organizations stand out in our minds as being a cut above the rest. That is our goal for Swan Mountain Outfitters. Come join us on a trip!”
