Overview
Silver Spur Outfitters and Lodge offers you a complete back country adventure. They offer horseback riding and pack trip adventures for novice or experienced riders. Trips travel into the largest wilderness area in the lower 48 states.
The base of operation is from their rustic, log lodge with all the modern conveniences of home. The lodge is located in the tiny village of Dixie, Idaho (population 14), which was once a booming gold mining town when gold was discovered in 1876. Today it is steeped in gold mining history with many old mines and homesteads to explore. Guides are sure to fill you in on its colorful and historic past. You can reach the lodge by car, or if you don't want to dirve out (84 scenic miles from Grangeville, Idaho), there is a back country charter service from Boise, Idaho, that can fly you right to the lodge. The runway can also be used by pilots with their own planes.
Trail rides and pack trips venture into the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, Salmon River Country, The Gospel Hump Wilderness, and The Nez Perce National Forest, with some of the most spectacular scenery on earth.
Silver Spur Outfitters and Lodge offers half and full-day rides, in addition to overnight, multi-day, and lodge to lodge pack trips. The half and full-day rides are great for the non-camper who liked the luxury and comfort of a beautiful lodge. These can be combined with hiking and 4x4 adventures to old mining sites and great trout fishing.
Their trail-proven stock will take you back to a time long passed, when life was much slower and simpler. Where good friends, fresh air, spectacular scenery, and wildlife viewing were all the entertainment needed. Camp under the stars in a comfortable tent and reminisce around the evening campfire about the day's adventures.
Your days will be filled with crystal clear mountain streams, majestic mountain peaks, beautiful wildflowers, a warm pine-scented mountain breeze, and endless blue skies. Fish for wily trout in pristine mountain streams or lakes. Photograph incredible wildlife, elk deer, bear, mountain lion, big horn sheep, moose, mountain goats, and if you're lucky, maybe a wolf.
Whichever you choose, guides are sure to educate you on the history of the Idaho back country. So, visit them and let the stress of every day life melt away in the serenity of the Idaho back country.
