Overview
Bearcat Stables was founded in 1999 by Gavin Selway and is still operated by him and his partner, Leeds Butcher, under Indian Summer Outfitters. It is nestled in the Cordillera Valley just south of Edwards, Colorado, and is part of the Vail Valley resort area. “Bearcat” was an actual person who earned his name in the 1930s when he would snarl and growl at opponents during local boxing matches. Mr. Bearden died in the early 1990s and his land was acquired by the Codillera Metro District. However, the land was specified as an “Open Space” by Bearcat in his will, lending to the protection of the acreage that the stables currently rests upon. The name “Bearcat Stables” was the most fitting, as it honors the man who had such a great deal of respect for the environment.
Indian Summer Outfitters’ focus is to offer exceptional horseback riding with a wide variety of options stressing the outstanding care and respect for the horses. Indian Summer Outfitters prides itself on the fitness and well being of its animals at the stables in hopes that everyone who visits will leave with an understanding that nature is best served with humbling respect of the creatures and surroundings that are so precious in today’s society.
Indian Summer Outfitters would like to invite anyone to come and join them for a ride in some of Colorado’s most beautiful scenery. Whether it is a quick hour around the historical homestead, or a weeklong trip to Aspen, Indian Summer Outfitters would love share with the public what is so near and dear to their hearts.
